SMU Ardiente, which means ‘fiery’ in Spanish, specialises in five Latin dances – Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive and Paso Doble. The club aims to provide a platform for members to continually hone their craft of Latin Dance and to infuse their passion into the SMU community. As a young club, Ardiente has already been successful in competitions and showcases, winning acclaim in a number of local and overseas competitions. Through fostering a culture of camaraderie and mutual respect, the club seeks to excel a premiere dance club.
SMU’s only standard ballroom dance club, SMU Ballare, was established in 2008, and has gone on to excel in notable Dancesport competitions both locally and internationally. Ballare competes and performs in five dances: Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz and Tango. Under the guidance of resident instructor Melvyn Low, SMU Ballare has grown from strength to strength, recruiting novice dancers with little or no dance experience and training them to become part of a professional team, always striving to do their best. Ballare is committed to give anyone who wishes to dance an opportunity to do so, and provides a safe, encouraging and collegial environment for members to hone their skills and build friendships.
