SMU Chamber Choir (SMUCC) has won many awards including a Gold in both the Sacral and Folksong categories at the 7th International Youth Music Festival held in Bratislava in 2015. Bonded through many feats and adventures, the choir prides itself as a family unbroken, with more than 20 returning alumni supporting its latest annual production, “Wrinkles in the Air IX”. Christie Fung is the Festival Ambassador for SMUCC.
When I’m not singing, you can find me at:
Christie: SMU’s School of Economics.
I feel instantly reFRESH!ed with a cup of:
Christie: Oolong tea.
The first thing that comes to mind about FRESH! is:
Christie: The smell of rain!
I joined SMUCC because:
Christie: Classical singing has always been my interest, and I wanted to share this with like-minded friends in a warm and tight-knit community. We’re called a ‘chamber choir’ because we are smaller in numbers compared to other choirs. Yet, our members have large personalities and each one of us is different – some with singing background, some with music background and some without. But we’re bonded as one choir family, creating music together!
I started singing when:
Christie: I was a member of the Loyang Secondary School Choir, where I was Section Leader for the sopranos. At SMUCC, I’ve been able to continue my journey of learning and performing choral music.
Tell us something about SMCC that nobody knows.
Christie: We stay in close contact with our alumni members, who continue to join us during our Christmas Carolling events and annual production, “Wrinkles in the Air”. In case you’re curious, the name “Wrinkles in the Air” draws inspiration from the shape of the sound waves produced when we sing!
Tell us what’s FRESH! about SMUCC’s performance at SMU Arts Festival 2016.
Christie: “In the Heart of the Musical” is our first collaboration with SMU Symphonia in celebration of SMUCC’s 10th anniversary. More interestingly, we’ll be seating the audience right in the centre of the performance, encircled by the Choir and Symphonia. Unlike a conventional stage, the audience can expect to be fully immersed in the concert, complete with 360-degree surround-sound experience!
In the Heart of the Musical is happening on Thu 15 Sep at 8.00pm at SMU U-Square.
