SMU VOIX is a group of performers deeply passionate about singing and performing without the use of any instrument. The members are constantly experimenting with the voice as an uber-versatile sound machine. They have a wide-ranging repertoire, from pop ballads to swing and jazz, to showcase their A Cappella Band and talents. SMU VOIX performs regularly on campus and at commercial events, and holds an annual concert to feature new pieces. Isabella Sim and Nicole Lee are the Festival Ambassadors for SMU Voix.
When we’re not singing, you can find us at:
SMU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Business.
I feel instantly reFRESH!ed with a cup of:
Isabella: Coffee, definitely coffee. I am not me without my morning cuppa.
Nicole: Iced Earl Grey Tea Latte.
The first thing that comes to mind about FRESH! is:
Isabella: The sight of greenery and the smell of vanilla.
The singer I look up is:
Nicole: Christina Aguilera, I really, really loved her in Burlesque. There’s so much character in her husky voice. For someone so small, she has such a bold and powerful voice.
Isabella: Olivia Newton John in Grease was what made me fall in love with singing. I still re-watch the movie every year!
SMU VOIX is FRESH! to me because:
Nicole: I’ve always loved to sing. I was in the choir back in junior college and I haven’t stopped singing since! At SMU Voix, every member is indispensible because every voice is unique and different. That’s why I feel such a great sense of pride and belonging here.
Isabella: I love meeting those who enjoy singing as much as I do, and I love sharing this passion with like-minded friends. Thanks to SMU Voix, I had the chance to shoot an Arts Festival video with the super bubbly De Zhong from SMU Music Interactive Club. We even traded tips on how to improve our singing!
Tell us what’s FRESH! about the SMU Voix production at SMU Arts Festival 2016.
Nicole: This year, we’re going to show the audience how much A Cappella music has changed over the years. Generally, people don't really know much about A Cappella apart from watching Pitch Perfect and listening to Pentatonix.
Isabella: To help the audience understand the art that we do, we’ll be performing a very diverse repertoire. We’ve got an interesting line-up of performances and collaborations, some of which have never been attempted before in SMU Voix's history.
Do You A Cappella 2016: (r)Evolution is happening on the 28 August at 3.00pm and 7.30pm at the Singapore Airlines Theatre, LASALLE College of the Arts.
