SMU Ballare is SMU’s standard ballroom dance club. It performs and competes locally and internationally in five dance genres: Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz and Tango. Ballare was awarded SMU’s Best Dance CCA in 2012. Amanda Chua and Jovan Yeo are our Festival Ambassadors from SMU Ballare.
When I’m not dancing, you can find me at:
Amanda: Lee Kong Chian School of Business.
Jovan: School of Social Sciences.
I feel instantly reFRESH!ed with a cup of:
Amanda: Coke and Fanta grape, mixed.
Jovan: Teh O peng siu dai (iced tea with less sugar).
The first thing that comes to mind about FRESH! is:
Amanda: Colour powder explosion!
Jovan: Air freshener in the toilet.
SMU Ballare is FRESH! to me because:
Amanda: I’ve always wanted to try ballroom dancing!
Jovan: I wanted to challenge myself, as I’ve never tried ballroom dancing before.
Tell us what’s FRESH! about SMU Ballare’s performance at SMU Arts Festival 2016.
Amanda: “The Big Grey” is our first collaboration with SMU StageIT.
Jovan: It’s a journey of awakening and self-discovery that explores the themes of freedom and suppression in modern day societies through a mesmerising blend of ballroom dance and theatre.
“The Big Grey” will be happening on Mon 12 Sep, 7.30pm to 9.00pm, at the Capitol Theatre.
